How do you get eight weeks of happiness from a five-day vacation? By planning it.

In an article by The New York Times, a study in The Official Journal of the International Society for Quality-of-Life Studies found that vacationers experienced a bigger happiness boost prior to taking their vacation than they did after returning.

The anticipation of a vacation can boost overall happiness for eight weeks! In fact, people often fall back to their baseline moods after returning from their vacation, unless their experience was “very relaxing.” Those who experienced a “very relaxing” vacation experienced heightened moods up to several weeks following their escape from the daily grind. Read More
